Key Leadership role for an established business Based in the Falkland Islands About Our Client T he Falkland Islands Company (FIC), provides essential services to the people of the Falklands.
Established by Royal Charter in , FIC's activities include retailing, property, automotive, insurance, tourism shipping and fishing agency services.
Operations in the Falkland Islands date back over 160 years to when the Falkland Islands Company was granted its Royal Charter.
From its early days as a major landowner and sheep farmer, controlling almost half the land area of the islands, the Company has steadily widened its activities to provide a broad range of essential services to the people of the Falklands.
The islands now have a population of around , with approximately tourists visiting the islands in from cruise ships and by air.
The company's main areas of activity embrace retailing (including food, clothing, electrical goods, home furnishings, gifts and DIY), residential and commercial property, the sale and hire of 4×4 vehicles, travel services, including flight bookings, airport transfers and luxury coach and walking tours for tourists, insurance, agency services for cruise ships and fishing vessels, and the provision of freight and shipping services to and from the islands.
The Falkland Islands Company and Falkland Island Shipping are wholly-owned subsidiaries of FIH Group plc, a publicly-owned company quoted on the AIM market in London.
Job Description The role is to provide commercial and financial leadership to a portfolio of FIC businesses owned by FIH group plc, through the setting and delivery of strategic initiatives, active leadership pf people and processes, a high level of stakeholder interaction and governance of the businesses financial reporting and compliance requirements.
You will provide finance leadership to the retail business, construction business, automotive business and support services.
Working closely with the MD, Commercial Director and other directors the incumbent is expected to identify, analyse and implement opportunities to enhance business performance and partner with the leadership to team to add value to decision making and contribute to the implementation of the overall strategy.
Stakeholders Understand and deliver stakeholder needs while building effective long-term relationships Use commercial acumen to ensure we manage projects profitably and maximise returns to the enterprise.
Drive profitability by ensuring correct financial oversight during tender processes through to successful implementation.
Business partner with MD and other senior stakeholders to develop strategic objectives, and then to ensure the business meets them Financial Leadership Build and develop high level relationships with external agencies, including banks, key customers and auditors.
Positively respond to both our internal and external customers through effective communication on a timely basis and personal accessibility/credibility.
Constantly seek to improve quality, service and efficiency.
Contribute to the evaluation and development of the respective business strategies.
Identify, analyse, and resolve business risks, as well as opportunities and solutions to enhance business performance Liaising with advisors, when necessary, ensure that new initiatives are planned in a tax efficient manner for the FIC entities.
Create and own the financial strategy that will underpin the businesses future plans.
Identify future financing needs and engage with Group CFO in securing external finance Lead and own the financial planning and analysis of the business delivering accurate budgets and forecasts within parent company timetables.
Prioritising efficient working capital management of the businesses, through management of stock, receivables and payables Managing the loan book to both internal and external clients making sure FIC lends responsibly Promote active management of costs through the relevant businesses Finance Processes, Procedures and Reporting   Lead and deliver financial reporting, including monthly reporting, Budgets, and forecasts, ensuring deadlines are met.
Develop processes, systems, and infrastructure to support businesses and enable growth Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the monthly reporting.
This includes proper monthly reviews of balance sheet reconciliations.
Develop financial models and/or analysis for new initiates for delivery to internal or external stakeholders Cash flow managing and owning the cash forecasting cycle and reporting of the business including a reliable 13-week weekly cash flow reporting cycle.
Weekly analysis and update of retail performance looking at transactions, price, cost and volume data.
Sending out of the performance graphs to the retail director and going through the issues affecting the retail business.
The Accounts Assistant updates the graphs from the weekly information sent out by the Retail Accountant.
Financial Governance Ensure financial integrity of Balance sheet, carry out monthly reviews and ensure team are performing reconciliations Accurate and timely preparation of annual financial statements in line with IFRS.
Support Annual audit process, ensure these businesses have a clean audit opinion and meet necessary timeline.
Meet all the necessary tax filing requirements for the respective businesses.
Ensure that at all times the businesses meet their finance covenant obligations.
Meet all FIH Group Financial reporting requirements The Successful Applicant You will be a CCAB or equivalent qualified accountant with a proven track record of achievement, with the ability to drive and manage a diverse workforce.
The ideal candidate will have worked in or had exposure to local authority or a civil service environment and be used to the highly political nature of working with a wide-reaching organisation.
You will have led a thriving team and established a culture in a previous role.
It is also important that you have previously held a senior management position with regular exposure to/or being part of the Executive Team.
Working with boards or committees is also essential to be successful in this role.
You will have a track record of achieving results through others and proven commercial acumen with the ability to contribute to decision-making Experience of transforming finance departments into well controlled departments capable of reporting on time is essential.
