SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER

About the Job
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to help grow OpenSesames eLearning platform. Youll work across the stack to develop features, improve systems, and ensure performance and scalability. As we adopt Extreme Programming XP practices, youll spend much of your time pairing or mobbing with other engineers to collaboratively develop solutions.

This role requires a wellrounded engineer comfortable with frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure tasks, as well as automated deployments. Youll mentor and support engineers, improve processes, and help others develop their skills.
Performance Objectives

In your first 90 days
Team Integration Learn the product, architecture, and legacy systems Drupal 7 and Angular to contribute to collaborative development.
Contribute to Success Actively participate in pairmob programming to develop features, resolve issues, and produce scalable, welltested code.
Mentorship Begin mentoring peers, sharing insights, and supporting team growth through daily collaborative practices.
Improve Processes Engage in agile ceremonies and retrospectives, refining XPbased workflows like testdriven development TDD.

Within 6 months
Drive Decisions Influence technical direction, ensuring scalable and efficient architecture while adhering to XP principles like YAGNI and simplicity.
Lead by Example Take ownership of initiatives that improve systems and workflows, contributing through pairing and mobbing.
Collaborative Development Work closely with Product and Design to align features with business goals, encouraging teamwide collaboration.
Incremental Delivery Help break down complex features into manageable vertical slices, focusing on releasing small, functional increments.
Strengthen Dynamics Support team growth through mentorship and guidance, improving XP workflows like TDD and collaborative coding.
By the end of your first year
Promote Ownership Foster a culture of shared responsibility, empowering the team to deliver sustainable, highquality solutions.
Mentor Peers Continue mentoring at all levels, developing leadership skills and encouraging knowledge sharing across the organization.
Shape Strategy Collaborate with engineering leadership to define longterm strategies, aligning technical vision with company goals.
Advise Management Provide thoughtful input on team needs and advocate for strategies that address skill gaps and enable longterm success.

Tech Stack
This team manages our marketplace stack, built on Drupal 7 and Angular, while actively modernizing to leverage technologies like TypeScript, Node.js, React, and Terraform. Youll work with both legacy and modern systems, ensuring continuity while driving evolution.

Location
This role is based in Mexico City, Mexico. OpenSesame operates as a remotefirst company, hosting periodic inperson meetings. Positions require up to 15 days of travel per year and legal authorization for U.S. travel.
