All thesis projects are arranged in business critical areas and therefore you will be able to contribute to our company purpose – providing freedom to move in a safe, sustainable and personal way – from day one!  About this opportunity - Background  This master thesis work will be carried out within Thermal Software Team of Thermal Management that is a part of the department Vehicle propulsion, and have the responsibility for cooling electrical motors, high voltage battery etc.
The System consists of both hardware and software, and the functionality and control of these are tested, analyzed and calibrated to optimize the function.
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) have essential components like batteries and motors that need controlled heating or cooling to function optimally.
A Thermal Management System, made up of heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and fans, regulates these temperatures using coolant or refrigerant.
The Thermal Control System manages the coolant flow to maintain required temperatures and consists of a controller, an observer, and a model.
This thesis focuses on creating a non-linear predictive controller with a cost function to optimize actuator energy use.
Scope of the Master Thesis The student(s) must complete the following tasks.
•    Develop a non-linear predictive controller to regulate component temperatures  •    Design an optimization problem with a cost function and constraints to minimize energy use by the actuators controlling temperature by solving an open-loop constrained nonlinear optimization problem •    Pick a use-case drivecycle and demonstrate the NLMPC in action compared to traditional controls This thesis aims to aid the Thermal Software team at VCC in achieving energy-optimal control.
The system's goal is to quickly reach and sustain the required temperature(s) with minimal energy expenditure.
Students will have access to a Simulink version of the plant, and a GT-Suite Plant model setup in SilVer with Software models connected.
They can choose to use MATLAB, Python, or both.

Qualifications •    Masters students within System Controls and Mechatronics, Mobility/Automotive Engineering, Applied Mechanics or similar education •    Software experience and skills in Matlab, Simulink, GT-Suite and MPC Controllers is a must •    Experience with Software in Loop and Model in Loop techniques is a plus •    Fluent in English, written and spoken Duration.
