FABRICATION MANAGER

Role and Responsibilities.
Overall management of the metal fabrication department.
Assessing potential using CAD, simulation, and offline calculation to cost new parts and responding to sales team members with estimated production cycle times.
Programming of CNC machines for new parts using a graphical interface.
Overseeing trials of new parts and documenting processing parameters.
Managing stocks of cutting tools and other key consumables and requesting supplies as required.
Working with the Quality Manager to establish quality control and packing plans for new parts.
Assist with simple CMM inspection and macro programming for routinely inspected items.
Lead a team of technicians and operators including allocating daily/weekly tasks to the team.
Assisting operators with set up of jobs on machines, but ultimately training and mentoring operators to be self-sufficient with support from the training manager.
Providing technical input on matters such as tooling selection, processing parameters, work holding, processing sequence, finishing and packing.
Carrying out induction training with new starters.
Carrying out staff appraisals, supervision and return to work meetings.
Ensuring that the team remains up in date with mandatory training.
Carrying out spot checks to ensure quality levels.
Ensuring acceptable levels of Overall Equipment Effectiveness are achieved.
Organizing Preventative maintenance and cleaning of machines according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
Liaison with the Operations Planner regarding planning of jobs.
Liaison with the Operations Planner and Customer Services team in the booking of transport.
Booking in finished items and issuing used materials.
Requesting raw material from the warehouse.
Selecting new plant and equipment.
Organizing repairs/servicing of machines.
Building better SOPs and applying lean/six sigma principles.
Essential Know-How and Experience.
CNC programming (at least using graphical software) Ability to use CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion or similar) Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and manuals.
Adaptable to change and varying situations.
Ability to show resilience and a flexible approach.
Good communication skills Excellent people skills and the ability to deliver hands-on training.
A high level of computer literacy – CAD, Word, Excel and manufacturing systems etc.
Knowledge of Health & Safety Management Systems (Ideally IOSH).
Metal fabrication or CNC machining Cutting tools, measuring instruments, and other ancillary equipment.
Basic level understanding of G-Code Basic understanding of machine workings i.
.
sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics etc.
Lean manufacturing training/six sigma experience.
Characteristics.
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively at all levels, including good level of presentation skills (verbal & written).
Positive can-do attitude to problem solving, developing systems and improving business performance.
Ability to promote team working culture and demonstrate team ethics.
Demonstrate a methodical approach to tasks, adherence to procedures and auditing of processes.
